THE SPEED PROJECT

Creative | Photography

The Speed Project personifies the tactile relationship between the runner and the land. Travelling 344 miles at a pace where you can touch the world. 44 hours of sensory stimulation, it’s as if each smell lingers in the air a little longer, the sun is relentless as you watch it travel across the desert, and how the road appears to never end with every pothole and blemish and fresh pavement apparent. The motor, the speed, the glass that acts as a barrier between you and the ground is gone, and the familiar pace of distance travelling has been shifted. Segue into serendipitous moments in the desert.

“There is a happiness a man can encounter that is unique when he is a part of the land, especially the desert.”

- Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey
